What's your favourite building and why?
Marina Bay Sands, Singapore because of the incredible engineering without which, the natural sway of the building caused by wind would create movement in the infinity pool and, due to its immense size and the height it is located, would cause the building to fall over. The building is saved by a series of movement joints and 500 jacks which keep the building level, and can also be used if the building subsides.

What do you get up to outside of ECYCS?
Pretty much anything physical as I'm not one to be found sitting around. My favourite hobbies are martial art (Taekwon Do and Jitsu), rugby, and mountaineering.

What's it like working within the ECYCS team environment?
The team at ECY are very friendly and welcoming, as a new starter they made me feel at home straight away which made settling into the new role seamless.

What's your favourite building and why?
A difficult choice, as a Building Surveyor there are many buildings I love, so I have to pick one I've had the pleasure of visiting. The Shanghai Tower is incredible, the external fabric twists around the structure to minimise the impact of wind on the building and the damper located at the very top of the 128 storey building is like a piece of art, not something that is designed to limit the swaying of the building. At the time it was constructed the lifts were the fastest in the world, the speed they travel is phenomenal yet you really don't feel like you are travelling so fast.

What do you get up to outside of ECYCS?
You're most likely to find me at Pride Park watching the mighty Rams. When I am not at football, I'll be attending a beer festival, playing golf or spending time with family and friends. There was a time when I would be running or cycling but that tends to be much more infrequent these days.

What do you get up to outside of ECYCS?
I love any outdoors activity, playing football, mountain biking, running, hiking and spending time with my family and my adopted rescue Beagle Bruno

It's fantastic! The working environment is friendly, passionate and energetic. This has allowed me to quickly adapt and become part of the ECYCS family.

What's your favourite building and why?
The Empire State Building, New York City. I can imagine it’s a generic answer but there is nothing more iconic to Western society than the 102-story Art Deco skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan. The sheer height of the structure and the architectural brilliance which went into designing the building is second to none.

What do you get up to outside of ECYCS?
Outside of ECYCS, I like to play football and golf, as well as spending time with my family and friends.

Give us an interesting fact about yourself?

When I was younger, I fell head first into my garden wall. I hit the structure with that much force the impact cracked my head open and my skull was visible.
